Mesh scenery is made using the Terrain SDK
based on the public domain United States Geological Survey data, which
provides accurate elevation data for the Earth's entire surface. The USGS
data is important because the FS2000 default scenery uses a far simpler
scenery model than the simulator engine is actually capable of displaying,
and this will be familiar to anyone who has explored the FS2000 world
to any extent.
The default terrain has elevation points spaced 1 kilometer apart. This
provides a barely adequate representation of the real world, as the subtle
nuances of valleys and peaks are lost, creating a dull, rolling appearance
in even the most jagged and extreme terrain. This high-resolution terrain
upgrade brings out the sharp relief by increasing the resolution to 153
meters between elevation points, creating a much more realistic and often
spectacular representation of the real world terrain.
Advise: Mesh scenery replaces the default scenery and you need a fast
PC (P500+)to run it. Download one scenery first and test the result, before
you download and install all files!
